VJBL Report - Round 11 2009
U14 Girls
The Miners under 14 Girls hosted Dandenong at the Minerdome in Round 11 of the Victorian Junior Basketball League last Friday night.
Both teams started the game well with a tight tussle being set up in the first quarter.
The match turned Ballarat’s way in the second quarter, as the fast paced game helped the Miners take control.
Kasey Burton and Lauren Jew continued their good form of late and with the help of Demi King on defence, Ballarat ran away easy winners 79 – 32.
Coach Jill Appleton was impressed with her sides efforts.
“It was pleasing to see the team work together to create a four quarter effort.”
U16 Girls
The Miners under 16 Girls also played at home last Friday night against Dandenong.
Ballarat took the game right up to the undefeated Rangers in the first half with the Miners playing a strong defensive game and capitalizing on some Dandenong errors. One point was all that separated the two teams at the major break.
The third quarter was one to forget for Ballarat as they missed some easy shots and allowed Dandenong to push the lead out to 5 points with one quarter to play.
The final quarter was played at very high pressure as Ballarat fought back but a costly missed lay-up and turnover in the dying minutes was enough for Dandenong to remain undefeated and beat Ballarat 47 – 39.

Melbourne extended it’s defensive pressure throughout the second quarter as Ballarat started to turn the ball over and give the tigers some easy layups.
Ballarat again struggled with the Melbourne pressure throughout the third term and trailled by 16 points at the last change.
Ballarat dropped its head in the last quarter and Melbourne extended the margin to 44 points.
