VJBL Report - Round 15 2009
Under 14 Boys
The Ballarat Miners under 14 Boys squad headed to Dandenong last Friday night, to resume their VJBL division one season.
After the two week school holiday break Ballarat struggled in the first half to get any structure going at both the offence and defence ends.
Ballarat changed the pace of the game in the second half with some hard running from Zac Carthew and Matt Davidson.
Just as Ballarat looked set to run away with the game Dandenong hit back with some strong defensive plays and disciplined offence getting them back in the game.
Ballarat guard Tanner Jordan was sent to the foul line with 1 minute left on the clock and calmly put Ballarat a head 39 – 38 and this was enough for Ballarat to sneak home a one point win.
Coach Michael Agnew spoke about the win.
“It was good in the end to get the win, hopefully we can now build on that and get back to the level we were playing at before the holidays.”
Under 18 Boys
The Ballarat Miners under 18 team had a home game last Friday night, against Dandenong, in round 15 of the VJBL season.
The game started very evenly with both teams getting through some good offensive execution and putting scores on the board with ease. Josh Grover and Dan Wehrung doing all they could to help the Miners to a 6 point lead at the half time break.
The Miners managed to increase their defensive pressure and pushed the lead out to 12 points by three quarter time.
With nothing to lose, Dandenong came out in the last quarter putting lots of pressure up the floor on Ballarat’s guards, which caused some quick turnovers and easy points to Dandenong.
A three pointer with five seconds remaining put Dandenong 2 points up and Ballarat were unable to execute a play as the siren sounded.
