Ballarat Trophies and Gifts A Grade Match Report Round 10 2009
Men
Wildcats and Celtic Tigers Red battled out a close game in Round 9 of A grade basketball last Monday night.
Wildcats, through Sam Borner and Nick Batch, controlled most of the first half but when Batch went down with a dislocated shoulder late in the half, Celtic Red got back in the game and lead by 2 points at the half time break. Not much changed in the second half as the scoreboard continued to tick over for both teams.
Celtic Red’s Matt Johnston found his range from behind the arc and Sam Borner continued to dominate for Wildcats. A tight finish saw Wildcats hold on for a 3-point win 53 – 50.
Women
In the game of the Round, Celtic Tigers Green managed to edge out Wildcats last Monday night. Celtic Tigers jumped out of the blocks early with Prue Scott, Emma Reus and Kelly Richardson all providing strong drives and easy baskets for their team.
Wildcats managed to keep in touch with Kristy Rinaldi unstoppable in the first half. Neither team could break away in the second half as both teams trading baskets freely.
Rachel Warton stepped up to help Rinaldi and Wildcats late in the second half but Scott and Reus had already done enough damage for Celtic Tigers winning 55 – 49. As a result Celtic Tigers have extended their winning record to 7-1 for the season.
