New Nuggets Basketball Coach
Ballarat Basketball Association today announced the appointment of Grant Spencer to be the Head Coach of the Nuggets in the SEABL D League for the 2010 season. Grant comes to the Ballarat program with a wealth of experience as the assistant coach of the Big V program at Hume City and was quickly appointed to an assistant coaching position with the U18 boys.
Since then, Grant has begun to work in training sessions with Ballarat’s Elite Performance Manager and Miners Head Coach, Guy Molloy, and is looking forward to making the link for young and developing basketballers, as they strive to make Senior teams.
“I can see the intensity that Guy Molloy demands of his players and I can see the benefits flowing through to the players. I am confident I can instill this approach with the emerging players and have them as a force within the D League and ready for the next step into the Miners as well”, said Spencer.
Grant has taken on the position after Miner’s legend, Eric Hayes, decided that work and family commitments would make it impossible for him to devote sufficient time to this level of coaching. However one team’s loss becomes another team’s gain as Eric has agreed to coach the Ballarat U/18 Girls.
Hayes said “I enjoyed my time with the D League Nuggets, and hope to move back into Senior coaching ranks in the future, but just at the moment to be fair to all involved, I will focus on a Junior team and hope to do well at the Vic Country Championships.”
Try-outs for the 2010 Nuggets Squad will take place from 11am to 1pm on Sunday November 29th at the WIN Minerdome. D League Regulations stipulate that the majority of the team must be 23 and under. Any questions regarding the Try-outs or apologies can be directed to Mark Valentine on 5338 1220.
