Junior Finals Get Underway
The Ballarat Basketball Association’s domestic season has reached yet another finals series which looks to provide many exciting games of junior and senior basketball. With the first finals matches being played during the week on Tuesday and Wednesday, the competition has really started to build in anticipation for the finals.
Thursday night saw the Under 16 and Under 18 Boys grand finals take place on Court 1 at the Minerdome.
In the Under 16 it was Wildcats and Celtic Tigers Red who battled it out for the championship trophy. With the scores close at half time it was Wildcats who ran away in the second half, winning the game 73 – 40. The top scorers for the game were Wildcats players Josh Keys (29 points) and Anthony Fisher (18 Points).
The Under 18 boy’s game provided a closer result between Phoenix and Wildcats with only 11 points separating them at the finish. Wildcats managed to steal the lead in the first half with some aggressive basketball from Josh Grover. His 17 first half points helped his team lead the game from half time, finishing with 22 for the game. The final score Phoenix 51 – Wildcats 62.
The remainder of finals matches will be played over the coming weeks at the Minerdome. Junior grand finals will be played on Sunday the 13th between 9am and 2:30pm.
Senior finals also begin next week with the first being played on Monday night. These games will include the Ballarat Trophies and Gift’s A Grade Men’s and Women’s first round finals.
