Under 18’s to Compete in Country Championships this Weekend
This weekend plays host to the first of four Victorian Country Championship tournaments with the Under 18 age group to get things underway in Bendigo. Both the men’s and women’s teams from Ballarat will make the trip to Bendigo to take on 42 of Country Victoria’s finest basketball teams.
The Under 18 men’s side will look to add one more championship to Ballarat’s six previous titles. Player’s such as Josh Grover, Jarrod Fryer, Anthony Fisher, Ash Constable, Tom Downey and Jack Sullivan put together an impressive list of state level players who will be representing Ballarat at the tournament. These high calibre players alongside four other high quality Ballarat locals and the leadership from Coach Daniel Dutton will mean that the team will be in a strong position to contend for the championship.
In the Under 18 women’s competition Ballarat has won the tournament an impressive twelve times. This year’s squad will again be hoping to add to this total. Jane Douglas and Sophie Alexander will head the Ballarat side’s attack under the direction of Coach Eric Hayes.
Both teams have had good preparation for the tournament having played several practice matches as well as competing in the VJBL Qualifying phases.
