The Ballarat Basketball Club today announced that Karen Ashby would be returning to play for the Lady Miners in 2009. On the back of this great news the club also announced that it had confirmed Ballarat Community Health Centre as the Lady Miners naming rights sponsor for a further two years.
Coach of the Lady Miners, Kym Cassells is “Thrilled to have Karen back in the team, she brings so much experience, which so important in the development of our younger players”
Ballarat Basketball Club General Manager, Robbie Burns said “It’s fantastic to have a player of Karen’s calibre back in the team, she is a proven superstar in this league, who has won multiple League Most Valuable Player awards”.
Ashby who decided to take a year off after playing with the Bendigo Spirit in the WNBL said “Im just really excited about getting back on the court, I have had so many great years with the Lady Miners and made some wonderful friends. I’m just hoping we can emulate the success we have had in previous years”.
The last time Ashby played in the SEABL competition she was league MVP in a stellar year she averaged 21 points per game and 10 rebounds.
