The SEABL Team of the Month is a league initiative to increase public awareness and emphasize the exceptional talent that is on court each week playing in “Australia’s Premier Winter Basketball League”.
The SEABL Monthly awards for April take into account games played in Rounds 6 to 9 inclusive.
SEABL MEN TEAM OF THE MONTH
With three 30+ games this month, Ballarat Miners Jamal Brown deserves his recognition as a member of the Team of the Month. Jamal averaged 26.7pts @ 66% and 13.2rebs this month and helped his team record a satisfying 3-3 record for April. Brown is having a career best season with the Miners, after transferring from Geelong in the off season. Brown averaged 30pts, 13.5rebs and 1.5ass in the Nations Capital in round eight, teaching the AIS youngsters a lesson on Saturday night with 36pts@67%, 19rebs, 2ass, 3stls and 1blk.

Earning the first guard position is Nunawading Spectres Shane McDonald who has averaged 19.7pts, 4.3rebs and 6.8ass for the month of April. Shane started his April campaign with 19pts, 3rebs and season best 11ass against Hobart in round six. Despite a 1-1 result to finish the month, Shane was consistent player for his team averaging 28pts, 6.5rebs and 6ass for the weekend. McDonald recorded 30pts, 9rebs and 4ass in the Spectres disappointing 81-93 overtime loss on 27th April.
Knox Raiders athletic guard CJ Massingale earns selection on the team for the second consecutive month after another solid performance. CJ scored 35+ pts in three games this month with a season best 47pts, 9rebs and 6stls in the Raiders 99-104 home loss to Geelong in round seven. CJ currently leads the league in scoring, and finished in style with a dominant 37pts, 18rebs performance in the Raiders 99-105 loss against Nunawading. With his team trailing 67-84 with a quarter to play, CJ Massingale recorded 21pts to nearly single headedly win his team the game.
Despite his teams disappointing season start, Andrew Rice has been a standout performer, leading the team in scoring and rebounding on numerous occasions. Andrew receives another Team of the Month recognition after averaging 24.3pts, 13.0rebs, 3.5ass and 2.3blks for the month of April. Andrew has recorded a double double in each game this month, and with 25pts, 15rebs, 2ass and 3blks in round eight helped the Bandits to their first victory of the season. Rice finished the month with 35pts@60%, 18rebs, 5ass and 4blks in the Bandits 104-120 loss at home to Ballarat.
Frankston Blues impressive import David Gruber helped his team to a 5-0 record, and earns his second consecutive Team of the Month recognition. Gruber averaged 30.4pts at 68%, 14.4rebs 2.2ass, 2.8blks and 1stl, and is sure to have all NBL coaches on notice with his stellar season form this year. David collected four double double games to finish the month, with 33pts, 18rebs, 2blks and 2stls in the Blues come from behind victory at Hobart in round seven. Gruber recorded 34pts@65%, 13rebs, 3ass and 4blks, to help the Blues to their sixth consecutive victory with a 96-84 win at home against Kilsyth.
