It is with great excitement that the RetireInvest Ballarat Miners announce the appointment of Guy Molloy as head coach for seasons 2010 to 2012.
In a major coup for local basketball, Molloy will coach the Miners as part of his new role as Elite Performance Manager of Ballarat Basketball.
Molloy 43, joins the club with an impeccable coaching pedigree. Most recently he served as Brian Goorjian’s assistant coach for the NBL Championship winning South Dragons and comes to the Miners with Goorjian’s high recommendation.

As part of Molloy’s new role as Elite Program Manager he will oversee the integration of Ballarat basketball’s elite programs from under 12 to senior level, for both players and coaches and he will have total overall responsibility for setting the culture and disciplines of the Ballarat Basketball coaching program. Miners President Nick Grylewicz says the appointment is terrific news for the Ballarat Basketball community.
“This is a significant appointment for basketball in Ballarat. We have been working with the Ballarat Basketball Association for some time on the continued professional development of our elite programs,” Mr Grylewicz said. “It has become obvious that we needed to invest in someone in a full time capacity to bring all the key coach and player management responsibilities for the men’s and women’s
programs together” Mr Grylewicz said. “
With Guy’s experience and talent, we expect that he will make a significant difference across all levels of Ballarat basketball.” The position includes the implementation and monitoring of performance standards and coaching strategies for all Ballarat elite teams. “From a Miners point of view, we would like to congratulate and thank the Ballarat Basketball Association Committee of Management on the work they have done in helping us to put this exciting new position together, ” Mr Grylewicz said.
Grylewicz also took the time to praise the work of Leigh Gooding who has done an outstanding job filling the role as Miners Head Coach for the past few months, “Leigh Gooding has done an outstanding job in his time acting as head coach of the Miners. In a short time he has helped develop a terrific culture in our men’s team.” “Leigh has been kept informed of the selection process and he has been invaluable in helping to set a framework for both the Miners and the Association as they prepare to build their programs in the coming years”. Molloy will commence the new position in late August.
