Lady Miners sign Rachel Jarry

The Ballarat Community Health Lady Miners have signed young forward Rachel Jarry for the 2010 SEABL season.

Jarry is currently playing with the Bulleen Boomers in the WNBL after completing her scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport. Jarry is an Australian junior representative having played with the U/19 Gems from 2007 to 2009 culminating in the 2009 FIBA World Championships where she has the teams second leading scorer and rebounder .

Whilst only 18 years of age, Rachel has a lot of basketball experience having played at numerous National Championships on top of her Australian representation. Ballarat Community Health Lady Miners coach Kym Cassells is delighted with the signed of Jarry. “Rachel will fit into our style of game and has a never say die attitude which will be crucial to our goal of returning to finals action in 2010.”

Rachel JarryAt 185cm Jarry will provide another scoring option that can play both inside and out as well as having the ability to guard taller opponents. When asked about her move to Ballarat Rachel said “I have heard great things about the basketball program in Ballarat and how strong it is, im just really excited about the move and hoping I can play some good basketball for the team”

Rachel will commence training with the Lady Miners once her commitments with top of the table Bulleen Boomers are complete. The first opportunity to see the all the new players in action will be on the 14th of February when the Miners and Lady Miners compete against past legends of the club in their annual exhibition match.
