The Ballarat Miners are excited to announce the signing of guard Ally Knights for the 2025 NBL1 season. Knights, a 5’7″ guard from Geelong, brings a wealth of experience from her collegiate career in the United States and her recent tenure with the Bellarine Storm for their debut Championship Women season in 2024.
Ally began her collegiate journey at the University of North Florida during the 2021-2022 season, where she played in 29 games, starting 24 of them. Notably, she set a UNF record with 20 assists in a single game on November 13, 2021, against Trinity Baptist, marking the highest assist count by any NCAA women’s basketball player since 2003.
Following her time at North Florida, Knights transferred to Hofstra University, where she continued to develop her skills. In the 2023-2024 season, she played in 12 games, averaging 4.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
Ally was looking forward to joining the Miners, stating, “I am super excited to be playing with Ballarat this season. After speaking with Kennedy, it felt like the right fit for me as a player and a person. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to come to the Miners. Looking forward to helping the team achieve some great things this season and being part of an awesome program.”
Head Coach Kennedy Kereama was thrilled with Ally coming on board, saying, “We are genuinely excited to sign Ally in our program. Throughout her junior years, Ally has been a consistent performer as a state player. After completing four years of college, I am eager to work with her at the NBL1 level. As a skilled combo guard, she will bring much-needed depth to our ball handling, perimeter shooting, and defensive lineups. Ally embodies all the typical country tough attributes with an exceptional work ethic, making her an ideal fit for our team.”
Basketball Ballarat CEO, Nev Ivey, added, “We are delighted to welcome Ally to the Miners for the 2025 season. She is a proven playmaker with great vision and leadership qualities. Her experience at the collegiate level and in NBL1 will bring a new dynamic to our team, and we’re excited to see her thrive in Ballarat.”
Ally becomes the 6th member of our Miners Women’s squad that currently has returning members in Abbey Wehrung, Ella Gordon & Micah Simpson as well as new recruit Opal Bird and returning local Laura Taylor with more key signings to come in the coming weeks and months. The Ballarat Miners kick off their season at home against arch-rival Bendigo on March 29th.
