The Ballarat Miners are proud to partner with RSL Ballarat in honouring the spirit of ANZAC, joining forces to pay tribute to Australia’s servicemen and women through an act of remembrance, reflection, and community connection.
On Tuesday, April 22, players and staff from the Miners will join the RSL at the Ballarat Cemetery, assisting in the placement of Australian flags on the graves of local veterans. The gesture will serve as a powerful moment of unity and respect, honouring the legacy of those who served and sacrificed.
“This partnership with the RSL is incredibly meaningful to us,” said Chris Thornton, Partnerships & Marketing Manager at Ballarat Basketball. “The spirit of ANZAC represents values that we hold dear as a club, teamwork, comradery, and selflessness. It’s an honour to play a small role in helping commemorate those who have given so much.”
The event forms part of a broader series of tributes from the Ballarat Miners during the NBL1 South ANZAC Round. 7
The jersey will be worn again at the Miners’ home game on Saturday, May 3 against the Waverley Falcons at Selkirk Stadium, where a formal ANZAC Day commemoration ceremony will be held in between the Women’s & Men’s games. The evening will serve as an opportunity for the Ballarat community to come together in remembrance and reflection.
“As a community-focused organisation, we see this as an opportunity to give back and stand with our community in honouring an incredibly important national tradition,” said Neville Ivey, CEO of Ballarat Basketball. “We’re proud to partner with the RSL and contribute to keeping the spirit of ANZAC alive — through acts of service, respect, and connection.”
Ballarat Basketball extends its thanks to RSL Ballarat for their collaboration and invites the public to attend the May 3 home game and join in commemorating ANZAC Day alongside the club.
