Celtic Tigers Progress to Grand Finals in A-Grade Basketball

Celtic Tigers Basketball Club have progressed to both the Men’s and Women’s A-Grade Grand Finals in a dominate fashion. Both teams progressed convincingly last night in the first Semi Finals held at the MARS® Minerdome.

Celtic’s Men’s team beat Wildcats Gold to earn the week off by 39 points led by home grown and now member of the GMHBA Miners Tristan Fisher who finished with 21 points. Fisher had solid support from Ross Weightman (18) and Jamie Constable (11) to be able to stretch out the lead to 13 points at the half.

Wildcats Gold who don’t have that high point’s scorer rather relying on a team effort that has got them this far, couldn’t peg Celtics back in the second half. Wildcats Gold play a strong team game led by the three Jew brothers in Chris (8 points), Michael (8) and Stephen (4) but on this night were unable to break down Celtics young attacking team.

Wildcats Gold will face another young team in Phoenix who got the job done against Wildcats 59 to 54. This match is scheduled for 8.30pm Monday September 5 at the MARS® Minerdome.

Celtic Tigers Green have gone through to another A-Women’s Grand Final defeating last season’s Premiers Exies Acmy by 9 points. The two teams play very similar games and defence is key to both of their title chances. This match was no different in a low scoring high intensity game.

Celtic rallied around Prue Scott who managed 9 points most of which coming in the first half. Claire Constable took over from there finishing with 7 points all in the second half.

Exies Acmy were led by Kasey Burton who managed 12 points in her sides defeat. This Exies team who are younger again than the championship winning team from last season continue to improve and will be tough to remove when they face off against Saints next week.

Saints cruised past Wildcats in the other semi-final 45 to 39 setting up an exciting Preliminary Final in a weeks’ time. The match is scheduled for 7.30pm Monday September 5 at the MARS® Minerdome.

Drummo Dragons have also moved through to play off for the title in the A1Women competition beating Exies Acmy Maroon 35 to 32.  The Kings have made light work of The Hitmen in the A2 Men’s competition winning 51 to 24.
