Welcome to Ballarat Basketballs Home-Stay-Play Program, and the page aimed to help you keep working on your basketball during this hiatus from organised sport.

 

Each Monday we will release an update to this page with new resources that we have either created ourselves, or found out there in the basketball community. All weeks are listed below, so if this is your first time joining us, please scroll all the way to the bottom.

WEEK 12

Welcome Aussie Hoopers to week 12 of our Home-Stay-Play Program.

 

This will be the final week of this program for the time being, as we refocus on our return to play strategy.

 

Coach Kuany with us this week, coach will be taking us through a range of drills to help us get ready for a return to sport. Follow along closely as we cover some defensive and offensive work, good luck!

Welcome Aussie Hooper’s to Week 11 of our Home-Stay-Play Program.

 

This week Coach Sam Short is taking us through the basic of defence. This will be something new for us to ensure you listen closely and try your best to copy the coach!

Welcome Aussie Hoopers to Week 9 of our Home-Stay-Play Program.

This week we have Coach Alicia from the Selkirk Ballarat Rush challenging our skills with some hand eye coordination drills plus some dribbling on the move drills to challenge us from what we learned last week.

WEEK 8

Welcome Aussie Hoopers to Week 8 of our Home-Stay-Play program.

This week we have Coach Alicia from the Selkirk Ballarat Rush taking us through some advanced ball handling work, this week Coach Alicia will show you some new dribbles and ways to strengthen your dribbling ability!

 

 

Challenge yourself by seeing how many body wraps you can do in 30 seconds or can you do 5 retreat dribbles without fumbling? Good Luck!

Week 7

Welcome Aussie Hooper’s to Week 7 of our Home-Stay-Play Program.

 

 

Coach Kuany from the Ballarat Miners is with us again this week to take us through a range of aspects of the game. Kuany really challenges us on what we have learnt so far. There is a chance to beat the coach at the end!

WEEK 6
Welcome Aussie Hoopers to week 6 of our Home-Stay-Play program.

 

This week we have both Deng and Kuany from the Hotondo Homes Ballarat Miners to coach us through this session.

 

 

Both coaches take us through some new challenging dribbling drills and well as some drills to help us improve our agility!

 

This week you will need a basketball, some open space and some cones (if you have them if not Coach Kuany has given you some different items you could use)

WEEK 5

Welcome Aussie Hooper’s to week 5 of our Home-Stay-Play Program.

This week welcome back Ballarat Miners very own Sam Short as our coach.

Sam will be focusing on “passing” and will help coach us through some of the different passes we can try!

  1. Chest pass
  2. Bounce pass
  3. Push pass
  4. Overhead pass

Be sure to listen closely to Sam's coaching points and try your best! Remember to keep going over previous weeks videos so you can improve your game!

WEEK 4

Welcome Aussie Hooper’s to week 4 of our Home-Stay-Play Program.

 

This week have Ballarat Miners & Melbourne United’s Sam Short with us. This week we are focusing on the Triple Threat position. This position allows us to do 3 different actions being

  1. Dribble
  2. Pass
  3. Shoot

 

Here are Coach Sam’s 3 coaching tips:

  • Stance is important, stay low and bend those knees!
  • Try your best to keep your eyes up, don’t look at the basketball whilst dribbling!
  • Use your fingertips when dribbling, this way you will keep maximum control on the ball

WEEK 3

Welcome to week 3 of the Aussie Hoops Home-Stay-Play program.

This week we have Coach Zac with us again taking us through a new dribbling circuit. Low, Mid & high dribbling.

Listen to coach Zac’s coaching tips for this drill

  1. Stay low in your dribbling stance the whole time (always keep your knees bent)
  2. Keep your eyes up, try your best to not look at the basketball
  3. Remember to use your fingertips this way you keep the great control of the basketball

WEEK 2

Hey Aussie Hoopers!

 

Hope you're all enjoying being back to school and also enjoying being back for term 2 of Aussie Hoops!

 

Two videos for you guys today to work on at home (you don't need a basket for these drills)

First video is our very own Coach Zac! Zac takes us through our shot technique. Be sure to find some open space and your basketball. Also try to film yourself going through your shot technique.

 

Second video is a fun dribbling drill that we want you to all try! Remember to be down low in your stance (knees bent) and also if you are looking for a bit of a challenge try to keep your eyes up (don't look at the basketball)

 

 

WEEK 1

Ballarat Basketball Aussie Hoops coach Zac Dunmore demonstrates different body wraps that you can practice at home. Be sure to film yourself in your Aussie Hoops gear and up in any photos of videos #HomeStayPlay
