The GMHBA Miners have completed the final piece of the puzzle when it comes to assembling their 2017 South East Australian Basketball League team with the signing of South Australian Peter Hooley.

Hooley most recently played for the Plymouth Raiders in the British Basketball League (BBL) and averaged six points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game under playing coach Darryl Corletto before asking to return home to Australia for personal reasons.

Before playing in the BBL Hooley attend University of Albany where he averaged 12.4 points, three assists and three and half rebounds per game across four playing seasons.

Hooley is best known for his buzzer beating three point shot that got his team into the NCAA tournament in 2015 when his team was down two.

GMHBA Ballarat Miners Head Coach Eric Hayes is excited by the signing of Hooley “We are really looking forward to having Peter in the program as he is just the type of person and player we have been looking for to complete our team.”

In discussion with the club Hooley came across as easy to talk to, team oriented and enthusiastic to be a part of the Basketball Ballarat Miners program and Ballarat community. Hayes mentioned “As a player Peter is very versatile so he will be able to play many positions and many roles on the offense and defense which will be great for us”.

Miners Elite Teams Chair Simon Walshe said “ It has been an exhaustive search and to finally have Peter on board is fantastic for the club and the Ballarat community”. Walshe added “Despite taking longer than we anticipated to fill this last spot we wanted to make sure we had the right person on and off the floor as this has been our focus with all our recruiting and Peter fits this mould perfectly.”

Hooley is expected to be in town mid-next week and will begin training with the Miners immediately with their first practice game scheduled for Sunday March 5 against Big V power house Ringwood at the MARS MINERDOME with Tip off at 1pm.
