McKew to represent Vic Country on National Stage

Basketball Ballarat will have strong representation at the Australian Under-18 Junior Championships which will be held in Townsville between April 13th and 20th. Basketball Ballarat Junior Development Co-ordinator and Hotondo Homes Ballarat Miners Assistant Coach Ryan McKew will head off to Queensland Thursday as Assistant Coach for the Vic Country Under-18 team.


Ryan will be joined by Thrifty Ballarat Juniors & McDonald’s Ballarat Youth League players Ethan Fiegert, Charlie Molan, Austin McKenzie.


Heading into the tournament Ryan is really excited about the opportunity that he has “It’s been a long campaign leading up to this tournament so I’m ready and excited to head off with the team and hopefully have a some success.” Ryan said.


Ryan is the current Assistant Coach for the Under-18 Boys and also the Coach for the Ballarat Region State Development Program so is really pleased to show the coaching pathway is possible for people in the Western Victorian Region.


“I’m always very honoured represent my home town Ballarat along with Western Victorian and also the Basketball Ballarat organisation especially in a National tournament like this. Having three Ballarat athletes selected for the U18’s team it’s very exciting time for the club.” Ryan said.


It won’t all stop here with Ryan making big ambitions to continue his coaching journey. “I’m hoping to continue my pathway in elite coaching and continue to work closely with Basketball Victoria. From this I hope I’ll see new opportunities so I can continue to develop as a coach” Ryan ended with.
