The Ballarat Miners are thrilled to announce the re-signing of star guard Micah Simpson for the 2025 Mitsubishi NBL1 South season.
Simpson joined the Miners for the 2024 season, quickly establishing herself as a key cog in Kennedy’s team. Averaging an impressive 10.2 points, 4 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game, Micah proved herself to be a true on-court general, leading the team with poise and determination. Her outstanding performances earned her a full contract with the Bendigo Spirit in the current WNBL season, where she has continued to develop under the guidance of Kennedy Kereama and alongside fellow Miner teammate Abbey Wehrung.
For Simpson, there was no hesitation to sign back on when given the chance, saying “It was an easy decision to re-sign in Ballarat. I loved everything about last year so I can’t wait to come back and represent the Ballarat Miners again”
Micah was just as impactful off the court, however, with her significant work with juniors and the local Ballarat community. Through her tireless work and engagement, she earned the inaugural Female Athlete Community Award for 2024.
Head Coach Kennedy Kereama was thrilled to have Micah back on board for the 2025 season, stating, “We are pumped to have Micah back for another NBL1 season. It’s been a big twelve months for her, and she has been investing a mountain of time into her game. I have no doubt with all the work she has done, Micah has positioned herself to make a huge impact on our team this upcoming NBL1 season.”
Ballarat Basketball CEO, Nev Ivey, echoed Kennedy’s excitement with having Micah coming back, saying “Micah’s re-signing is fantastic news for the Ballarat Miners and our community. Her contributions last year extended far beyond the court, and her engagement with local programs and initiatives was truly amazing. Micah is a role model for young athletes, and we’re proud to have her as part of the Miners family. We can’t wait to see her lead the way for us again in 2025.”
