Coaching at Ballarat Basketball is more than just drawing plays and running drills — it’s about shaping athletes, building culture, and leaving a legacy in the game.
Whether you're coaching a bottom-age U12 team or guiding a VC squad on Friday nights, every coach plays a vital role in the journey of our athletes.
A Development-First Environment
At Ballarat, we value growth over trophies. Success is measured in the improvement of each athlete — how they train, compete, think, and communicate. Coaches are supported to teach fundamentals, promote great habits, and build game understanding across all ages and levels.
A Community of Coaches
You won’t be coaching in isolation. You’ll be part of a connected and collaborative coaching group, working under the guidance of the Director of Coaching and supported by mentor coaches, state-level leaders, and fellow peers.
We share ideas, attend clinics, swap drills, and support each other’s teams — creating a network that builds confidence and capability.
Clear Pathways for Coaches Too
Just like athletes, coaches have pathways. You might start as an assistant coach at U12s, and progress to a head coach, state team assistant, or even NBL1 involvement. We offer:
-
Coaching accreditation support (Community, Club, Association levels)
-
Access to representative events like JCC, SDP, and the Classic
-
Opportunities to shadow senior teams (NBL1, Youth League)
-
Constructive feedback and development planning
Commitment with Flexibility
We understand coaches are volunteers with work, family, and other commitments. While we value reliability and professionalism, we also work to support you in managing your time — especially for new coaches still finding their feet.
Who We Look For:
Ballarat coaches are:
-
Passionate about helping young people grow
-
Willing to learn and develop their own coaching voice
-
Positive communicators and good team players
-
Aligned with our values of respect, development, and effort
You don’t need to have played at the highest level — you just need to care about teaching, learning, and contributing.
The Payoff
The reward? Watching athletes improve, hearing how you’ve impacted someone’s journey, and knowing you're building something meaningful — all while being part of one of Victoria’s most respected regional basketball programs.
If you’re ready to coach with purpose, we’d love to have you involved.
