Miners Strengthen Squad with Late Signing

The GMHBA Ballarat Miners are proud to announce exciting US college graduate Nathan Sobey to join the team in May.

Sobey, 190-centimetres, played with the Youth League Miners before departing for NCAA Division 1 college University of Wyoming.

The 23-year-old was one of two players to start all 33 games for Wyoming during the 2013-14 campaign. He averaged 9.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 30.2 minutes per game, shooting 43% from the field and 26% beyond the arc.

Sobey notched 13 double-figure point games, including two contests with more than 20 points. He was fourth on the team in points, while ranking third in rebounds and assists. He scored in double figures in six of Wyoming’s last eight games, including two career-best efforts.

Miners head coach David Flint is “extremely excited about Nathan joining our group.”

“We have been watching Nathan’s progress over the last 12 months and his style of play will complement everyone else on our current roster. He is very athletic, strong, can get out on the break being able to finish above the rim and could also be a lock down defender that brings a lot of intensity,” said Flint.

Sobey arrives back from the US in May and will play his first game against Mt Gambier on Saturday May 17 at the MARS® MINERDOME.
