Craig Moller will return to the GMHBA Ballarat Miners this weekend for a crucial away game in Bendigo against regional rivals the Braves. Moller returns to the Miners due to an ankle injury Dyson King-Hawea sustained in their win over Hobart on June 4.
Moller already enjoyed a brief stint with the Miners this season between April 23 and May 29 as a replacement for the then injured Chris Smith. Moller then returned to his home club Southerland Sharks, who play in the NSW Waratah League, as to provide a roster spot for incoming Miner’s big man James Hunter.
The Miner’s sub-committee had been interested in retaining Moller for the season but Head Coach Eric Hayes was conscious of team balance and available minutes.
With the Miner’s to continue on their recent winning ways (won five of their last six), and with King-Hawea unavailable for at least the next month, the Miners sub-committee pulled the trigger to ensure Moller was quickly back on the roster.
Hayes commented “With Dyson going down it leaves us a man short so it is great that we have been able to fill that spot so quickly, and especially with someone that knows our structure and fits in with our culture”.
“It’s great to get Craig back on board, he is a great guy for our team and a super talent” Hayes added.
Moller is happy to be back “I’m glad to be back, although Ballarat is cold, it’s nice to be back around the boys and work towards winning the SEABL Championship with a great bunch of players.”
Craig arrives in Ballarat on Thursday afternoon where he will re-join the playing group that night at practice, and line up with the team on Saturday as the second placed Miners take on the top of the table Braves.
The GMHBA Ballarat Miners Tip off at 8pm after the Ballarat Rush take on the Lady Braves from 6pm. 2015 Bendigo Spirit stars Molly Mathews, Kerryn Harrington, Ashleigh Spencer and Joy Burke will all play their first game in Bendigo since the end of the WNBL season, where they finished sixth.
