Peter Eddy Inducted into Ballarat Sports Hall of Fame

The Ballarat Sportsmen’s Club hosted the Ballarat Sports Hall of Fame Dinner on Wednesday evening with Basketball Ballarat’s CEO Peter Eddy being inducted into the Hall of Fame as an Associate member.

The Ballarat Hall of Fame event recognises those who have achieved in their sport and it’s a way to celebrate the accomplishments of these great Ballarat sporting people.

‘I was very humbled to receive this recognition and to be included with such remarkable people as are already in the Hall of Fame and those who were inducted with me.’ Peter said.

Peter Eddy was recognised for his contribution to Basketball Ballarat since becoming CEO in 1990 to which he holds to the current time. Peter also became a Life Member for Basketball Victoria in 2014. He highlighted the Mars Minerdome hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and helping secure the combined commitment of the $24m 6-court extension to the Ballarat Sports & Events Centre as some very special memories.

Peter mentioned the support of his family while at Basketball Ballarat as a key influence for the award. ‘I am grateful to my wife Maxine and daughter Jessica for their support, encouragement and understanding over my years of involvement with Basketball Ballarat and to the Association for allowing me the privilege to lead this Organisation.’

There is still plenty which Peter wishes to achieve in the near future across the Ballarat Region. ‘The new Ballarat Sports and Events Centre is opening mid 2019 which we are planning to maximise for all indoor sports as well as preparing to move programs and services into Ballarat West at two courts based at Phoenix College from term 4 this year’ Peter said.

Peter acknowledges that during 2020 the timing will be right for him to step down as CEO and to allow a next generation leader to take over.

From everyone at Basketball Ballarat we thank Peter for his continued passion & commitment for the Association.
