The Ballarat Miners are thrilled to announce the signing of American swingman Andrew Robinson for the upcoming NBL1 South season. Standing at 6’7″ (201 cm), Robinson will bring versatility and a strong scoring presence to the roster.

Robinson, 28, from Takoma Park, Maryland, joins the Miners after a notable season with the Bendigo Braves last season. During his tenure with the Braves, he averaged 16.7 points per game, showcasing impressive shooting efficiency with a 50.4% field goal percentage and a 39.9% success rate from beyond the arc. Additionally, he contributed 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, underlining his all-around capabilities on the court.

Prior to Robinson’s professional career, which has seen him play in Japan, Portugal, and the USA before his stint in Australia, Andrew had a distinguished collegiate journey. He began at Quinnipiac University, where he played three seasons, earning MAAC All-Academic Team honors and being recognised as an Academic All-America nominee during the 2017-18 season. He then transferred to Coppin State University for the 2019-20 season.

Robinson was excited about coming to the Miners, stating “I’m excited to get to Ballarat and compete for a championship this season. I’m looking forward to becoming a part of the community, meeting the fans, competing alongside my teammates, and leaving it all on the floor every game! Thanks in advance for welcoming me in, now let’s go have a great season, Go Miners!”

Head Coach Luke Brennan was extremely pleased with being able to sign Robinson, saying “I’m very excited to have Andrew on board for the upcoming season. His shooting and positional versatility will give us some exciting play on the court. More importantly, he is an elite human who will contribute to our culture both on and off the floor!”

Matt Sheehan, Senior Elite Teams Committee Member added, “It’s great to have Andrew join the Miners Family. Andrew comes to us with a great basketball reputation after seeing it first-hand playing against the Miners last year and will bring a different style of play for Coach Brennan. But from a club point of view, Andrew has a great reputation of getting involved in the community and I have no doubt his personality will shine and the Ballarat community will love him.”

Andrew joins Nick Stoddart and Max Cody in returning for the upcoming season as well as new recruit Clancy Bird with more key signings to come in the coming weeks and months. The Ballarat Miners kick off their season at home against arch-rival Bendigo on March 29th.
