Roy Booker Wins Second Player of the Week Award

GMHBA Ballarat Miner Roy Booker won the SEABL Player of the Week award for the second time, just seven rounds into the competition.

Booker led the Miners to two heroic, come-from-behind road victories on the dreaded ‘Tassie Double’ to defeat Hobart on Friday night and North West Tasmania on Saturday night.

Booker averaged 30 points and 6.5 assists across the two games, but these figures only tell half the story.

On Friday night the Miners trailed by 15 points leading into the final quarter, but thanks to Booker’s brilliance the Miners secured a 92-89 win. Booker scored 14 of his team high 24 points in the final term with 12 coming in the final three minutes of the game.

The following night in Ulverstone, the Miners trailed by 18 with 5:26 remaining in the final term, but were able to scrape home with the win as Roy Booker produced 12 points in the fourth quarter including the game-winning buzzer-beater.

Booker first won the Player of the Week award in round 2 with a 28 point, five assist, two steal performance in a 96-70 win in Brisbane.
