The Ballarat Skoda Rush are pleased to announce the dual signing of American Imports Courtney Walker and Courtney Williams.
Both Walker and Williams graduated from Texas A&M in 2016 after completing their senior year and will come to Ballarat as good friends and former team mates, similar to Miners players; Marvin King-Davis and Davon Usher.
Walker was named in her final year as AP All-American and also Named First Team All-SEC for the third consecutive year. Walker also Led the SEC in scoring averaging 19.7 points per game in season, which included nine games of 20 plus points, and 18.4 points per game overall. Her 590 points ranked third in a single-season in Texas A&M history.
Ballarat Skoda Rush Head Coach Eric Hayes said “Walker is incredibly talented, she holds the all-time scoring record at Texas A&M with 1989 points which is impressive and we will be looking to her to put points on the board for us this year.”
Walker is looking forward to coming to Ballarat saying “I’ve heard a lot about the SEABL, I used to play against Jaterra Bonds and follow her on Instagram so I am very excited to be joining the Ballarat Skoda Rush.” Walker continued “I’m looking to bring a great attitude, consistency, leadership, and intensity to the team. All of these things are represented in my personality and playing ability and I am excited to arrive and get started.”
Meanwhile, Williams averaged 12.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 27 games, earning Second Team All-SEC honours for the third consecutive year, despite battling injury through most of the conference season.
Hayes said “Williams is a highly skilled versatile player, speaking with her Texas coach, she is able to play 1-4 and even 5 at a stretch when required. This will provide us with versatility across the whole court”. Hayes added “both Courtney’s will bring plenty to the team and will add different dimensions to our game.”
Williams is thrilled to be joining the Rush along with Walker “After speaking with the coaches I am excited to get started. I have heard great things about the Rush and the Ballarat community and I can’t wait to get to know everyone”
Chair of Senior Elite Teams – Rush Lynly Doherty said “Having spoken to both players, they are both lovely young women who will fit into our community seamlessly and I look forward to watching them work hard on and off the court”
Walker and Williams are expected to arrive in Ballarat in February ahead of the season opener on Friday April 6th against Dandenong at the MARS MINERDOME
