What Worked Well: The girls showed strong rebounding effort on both ends but especially offensively, allowing our bigs to create second-chance opportunities under the basket. Defensively, they were solid, finding ways for all members to contribute and ensuring a well-rounded team performance.
Focus Moving Forward: Building on this performance, the team will look to maintain their defensive intensity and ensure ball security, making smarter decisions under pressure. Stringing together a consistent four quarters will be a key focus as they continue to develop their game.
Coach’s Comment: “I’m really pleased with our first game of the season. We have a new-look team hitting the court this year, featuring a mix of returning players, athletes rejoining the Ballarat program, juniors progressing through the pathway, and new faces joining the squad. I was really happy with the performance from the girls, with every player contributing in some way. There were a lot of positives to take from the game, while also plenty of valuable lessons that will help us grow. This is a young group with great potential, and I have no doubt they will continue to develop as the season progresses.”

Lilly was a strong facilitator whilst, Ruby Murphy led the way as captain top scoring, Stella Roberts played a solid game under the basket heading to the free throw line a number of times. Youth League Men’s – Ballarat 80 def Westgate 75
Ballarat Men’s Youth team started slowly against a formidable opponent in Westgate. Westgate got out of the gates well and lead during the first quarter 21-3, but with some solid defensive plays and quick ball movement Miners were able to steady and complete the 1st quarter 27-18. After a grinding 2nd quarter the scores were 44-40 with the Youth miners still down but closing in on Westgate. A solid 2nd half from the miners saw Ballarat overtake Westgate and on the back of a great team effort came away with the win 80-75.
Jack Hexter had a strong game and lead all scorers with 22 points.
