The Ballarat Miners are thrilled to announce the re-signing of local talent Zac Dunmore for the 2025 Mitsubishi NBL1 South season. Dunmore, originally from Ararat, has been an integral part of the Ballarat basketball community, showcasing his dedication and skill both on and off the court.
Dunmore began his basketball journey with the Ararat Redbacks before relocating to Ballarat to further his development. His commitment and hard work earned him the Senior Program Encouragement Award in 2018. He subsequently secured a spot on the inaugural NBL1 roster for the Ballarat Miners in 2019 and has been a mainstay in this team ever since.
In the 2024 NBL1 South season, Dunmore delivered impressive performances, averaging 10.57 points, 3.35 rebounds, and 1.09 assists per game, with a field goal percentage of 45.88%. These statistics underscore his consistent contribution to the team’s success.
Dunmore’s progression through the basketball ranks is a testament to his dedication. After excelling with the Ararat Redbacks, he transitioned to Ballarat, where he played pivotal roles in junior representative teams and the Youth League. His journey reflects the effectiveness of Ballarat’s development programs in nurturing local talent.
Zac shared his excitement about re-signing, saying, “I’m super keen to be back this year with the Miners! We had a lot of success last year, but with a similar group of guys and coaches, along with some elite new recruits, we are eager to get back to playing finals and going one further this season! “
Coach Luke Brennan highlighted Dunmore’s growth and impact on the team by saying, “Stoked to have ZD back for another year. He improved immensely last season and was a key part of our finals push. I am looking forward to seeing his continued growth. More importantly, he’s a Ballarat local who has come through the system.”
Nev Ivey, CEO of Basketball Ballarat, acknowledged the value of retaining players like Dunmore, stating, “Keeping players like Zac in Ballarat is vital for the strength and identity of our program. His development through our junior and senior pathways is a great example of the opportunities we provide for young athletes to progress to the NBL1 level. We’re excited to see him continue to grow and contribute in 2025.”
Zac becomes the 9th member of our Men’s squad following the re-commitment of Ned Renfree last week along with fellow returning Miners in Pete Puondak, Luke Rosendale, Majok Majok and Nick Stoddart as well as new key recruits in Aiden Krause, Clancy Bird and import Andrew Robinson with our final roster announcements to come over the next fortnight. The Ballarat Miners kick off their season at home against arch-rival Bendigo on March 29th.
