Basketball Players ready to hit the courts as part of Labour Day Long Weekend Tournament

Basketball Players will converge on Ballarat this coming Labour Day Long Weekend for the 2021 Sporting Globe Ballarat Senior Basketball Tournament when they hit the courts of the Minerdome and Ballarat Sports Events Centre.

Playing over three days the annual event is estimated to provide a significant impact on the local Ballarat business community with the 1,500 attendees that will generate approximately $1.27million in economic output in Ballarat.

Event Manager Mark Valentine was pleased to see so many teams eager to get on the courts.

“Great to see the genuine enthusiasm players are showing to return to tournament play in Ballarat.  For many of these players this tournament in 2020 was their last serious hit out before the lockdown” Valentine said.

Valentine added that this year the event will also host a Premier Division in the Women’s program for the first time in many years.

“This year we have been able to get a Bylsma Hire Premier Division running for the Women.  This will give the likes of the Selkirk Ballarat Rush, Melbourne Uni and RMIT a chance to get some valuable practice with timing rules more in line with their league rules” Valentine said.

After the recent enforced five-day lockdown there was some doubt whether the event would be able to play however with the restrictions easing the tournament will be able to operate under a Covid Safe protocol.

“Players have been informed of the COVID Safe rules which apply to this tournament and there is strong support from all teams to respect the practices so that they do not jeopardize future events and competitions” Valentine ended with.
