Horton Claims Third Player of the Week Award
GMHBA Ballarat Miner Ken Horton is the SEABL Player of the Week for the third time this season – the only male player to receive the award three times.
The Miners defeated arch rival Bendigo on the road on Friday night before dismantling Brisbane at home on Saturday to put them within one win of a confirmed finals berth.
Horton starred in both games, with 29 points and 14 rebounds against Bendigo and 25 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and four steals against Brisbane.
Horton is the league’s leading rebounder with 13.4 rebounds per game, and sits 11th in points per game with 20.9.
Much uncertainty surrounded Horton’s ability to sustain his performance in the absence of injured teammate Roy Booker. Horton has thrived, going from 20.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game before Booker’s injury to a remarkable 23.3 points and 14.8 rebounds per game since the injury.
Miners players have now won five of the fifteen available Player of the Week awards with Horton also taking the honours in rounds eight and thirteen, and Booker claiming the title in rounds two and seven.
The Miners host North West Tasmania at the MARS® MINERDOME from 2pm this Sunday, July 20, following the Integra Ballarat Rush taking on Launceston at midday.
