Ken Horton is the SEABL Player of the Week

GMHBA Ballarat Miner Ken Horton has won the Player of the Week award for Round 8 of the South East Australian Basketball League.

Horton played a huge role in the Miners’ two wins over both of the 2013 grand finalists, the Mount Gambier Pioneers who were undefeated before facing Ballarat, and the reigning champion Dandenong Rangers.

Horton posted 12 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks against Mount Gambier on Saturday at the MARS® MINERDOME then backed it up with 34 points shooting 86%, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in Dandenong on Sunday.

The first year import has been excellent for the Miners, averaging 22 points, 12 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.6 steals and one block per game, shooting 46% from the three-point line and 55% overall.

Ballarat Miners have won the Player of the Week award three times in just eight rounds so far, with Roy Booker taking the honours in Round 2 and Round 7. Booker and Horton are both in the league’s top 10 for scoring; Booker first with 27.5 point per game and Horton ninth with 22. Booker also leads the league with 6.7 assists per game while Horton’s 12 rebounds per game put him second in the league.

The Miners head to Canberra this weekend to take on the Canberra Gunners on Saturday and the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence (formerly AIS) on Sunday, returning to the MARS® MINERDOME on Sunday June 15 to take on Sandringham.
