McCallum Returns

The final piece of the puzzle for the GMHBA Ballarat Miners is the return of big man Cam McCallum. McCallum rejoined the Miners for the 2017 season after a few years away and made a huge impact on and off the floor.

On the floor McCallum averaged fours points and five rebounds in a injury interrupted season which saw him miss five games and played many more games in discomfort.

McCallum in the off season has worked with the clubs strength and conditioning team to get his body right in a bid to push the Miners all the way to a championship. McCallum said “it has been a busy off season in the gym, the body is feeling good and I’m looking forward to another great season”.

McCallum added “to lose the conference final in overtime hurt, we have retained a good core group and we now know what it will take to go all the way and we are very motivated to get the job done this year”

Head Coach Nathan Cooper-Brown said “It’s great to get Cam back for 2018. Cam is a true veteran of the group, and someone I have built a strong relationship with, and someone I rely on to help lead this group” Cooper-Brown continued “His toughness, and willingness to sacrifice for the group are rare traits, and extremely valuable in the SEABL, particularly when we come up against bigger opponents”

Cooper-Brown finished with “I know the whole community will be excited to see Cam back in a Miners jersey and we look forward to him contributing to our success this season”

Miners Senior Elite Team Miners committee Chair Simon Walshe said “Cam puts his body on the line for the team and that is something we love. If his body can stay right for the whole season he will definitely cause some headaches for the opposition”.

Senior elite teams preseason training starts back on Tuesday January 23 with SEABL players joining as they arrive in town. It is likely full squads will be begin training on Tuesday February 27.
