Moller Returns

The GMHBA Ballarat Miners are pleased to announce that Craig Moller will be returning to the MARS® MINERDOME in 2017.

Moller joined the GMHBA Miners five games into the 2016 SEABL season as an injury replacement for Chris Smith while the squad was waiting on the arrival of James Hunter. Moller played five games before returning to Sydney when Hunter arrived.

The Miners then suffered another injury loss in the very next game with Dyson King-Hawea tearing ligaments in his ankle and being ruled out for the rest of the season. Due to this injury Craig was brought back into the team and played the remaining 12 games of the season.

Head Coach Eric Hayes said “Craig was great for us last year and I am pleased we were able to retain him for 2017” Hayes added “Craig was vital for our team and  despite an interrupted 2016 season he produced some great basketball for us.”

Moller is a key resigning for the Ballarat Miners with Miners Elite Teams Chair Matt Sheehan saying “Craig has been a priority signing, the impact he had on the team and the community during the 2016 season was profound and something we wanted to extend”.

Moller played 17 games for the Miners in 2016 after originally signing with his former junior club Sutherland Sharks in the NSW Waratah League. Previous to that Moller was a Development player with the Sydney Kings during the 15/16 NBL season and made his debut in the final game of the season.

Moller said “I’m really happy to be coming back and looking forward to the season ahead”. Moller continued “The professionalism and direction the club is heading is what drew me back combined with the strong desire to win a championship”.

Moller also spoke highly of the development opportunities “The program Ballarat runs will continue to develop me as a player and help me take the next step into the NBL which is really exciting”

Moller averaged a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Miners and in the off season has been re-signed as a development player for the Sydney Kings.

Moller will arrive in Ballarat as soon as his commitments with the Kings have been completed.

Moller is the second signing within days for the GMHBA Miners with the focus now on our local contingent as they build for a strong pre-season heading into 2017.

Both the GHMBA Ballarat Miners and Ballarat Rush expect more announcements in the next week as the recruiting process ramps up.
