Phoenix 12GA too strong for Saints Fever

Phoenix U12 Girls A proved to be too strong for Saints Fever running away with a dominating 38-10 win. Phoenix guard Olivia Beer notched a game-high 23 points, while Saints Fever’s Rose Murnane managed to be her teams only scorer of the game finishing with 10 points.

After a slow start to the match Rose Murnane finally got scoring under way for Saints Fever, which led to each team trading baskets with the scores soon to be locked at 4-4 mid-way through the opening half. Unhappy with the start both team coaches called time outs early in the peace, each trying to help get their team into a rhythm. Phoenix coach Troy McCarthy must have given his crew a rev up as they blew away Saints Fever for the remainder of the half, finishing on a 16-0 run.

Throughout this run Saints Fever were unable to keep Phoenix talls Georgia Skewes and Dakota Demanuele off the offensive glass resulting in multiple second chance points. Olivia Beer seemed unstoppable throughout this period of time scoring 13 of her 15 first-half points. Despite strong offensive play by the Phoenix girls, their defence ultimately set up their offence by getting numerous steals and preventing Saints Fever from getting the ball past the half way line regularly.

Unfortunately for Saints Fever, the second half was much of the same as the first. With both teams going scoreless for the first 5 minutes of the half, Olivia Beer started where she left off in the first-half by putting the first score on the board. It wasn’t until 7 minutes remaining in the match that Saints Fever were able to put a score on the board, through the ever-reliable Rose Murnane. This score was the first for the Saints Fever side since the opening 5 minutes of the first half.

Phoenix went on to control the remainder of the match with multiple players impacting the scoresheet in the dying stages of the game. It was a positive finish to the season for the girls Phoenix girls, as they have a bye in the last week of the regular season. Saints Fever will conclude their campaign against fourth placed Drummo Dragons. Unfortunately neither team is in finals contention.
