Rush Look to Start on the Right Foot: Thrifty Road Game Preview

28/3/14

The Integra Ballarat Rush make their debut in Brisbane tomorrow, and the speed at which they settle will go a long way to determining their success.

The Lady Spartans played two games in round one, a win and a loss, while the Rush had a bye.

WNBL star Steph Cumming will make her debut for the Rush after a busy week training with the Australian Opals.

Cumming was SEABL’s second-highest scorer last season playing for Frankston with 24 points per game to complement her five rebounds and three assists. Cumming also led the league in two-point percentage and three-point percentage, and was second overall in free throw percentage.

Ballarat’s dynamic front-court duo of Nya Mason and Kristy Rinaldi is expected to cause trouble for many opponents, while exciting youngsters Abbey Wehrung, Sophie Alexander and Bronte Clark may be the x-factors.

Brisbane rely heavily on forward Olivia Thompson who averaged 18 points and 9.5 rebounds across the Lady Spartans’ first two games.

Limiting Thompson and gelling quickly will be the keys to a Ballarat victory.

The game tips off in Brisbane at 5:30pm tomorrow. Thank you to Thrifty Ballarat for providing all our travel needs.
