The GMHBA Ballarat Miners have this week been made aware that American import Davon Usher has suffered a stress fracture in his leg.
Davon is working with the club and club medical staff at Lake Health Group on the appropriate course of action from here but in the interim Davon will be unable to play and train with the Miners.
Senior elite teams administrator Melissa Thomas said “We are still investigating the best course of action for Davon and his recovery and we hope to have more information early next week.”
While it is disappointing to lose Usher it does provide more opportunities for Ross Weightman and Tristan Fisher.
Basketball Ballarat will provide an update next week when more information comes to hand.
Update 29/06/18
Davon Usher will next week return to the United States to have surgery on his stress fracture
Usher had Xrays which unfortunately confirmed an anterior tibia stress fracture. Basketball Ballarat Club Physiotherapist Jacob Monk said “Due to the stress fracture location, Davon will require surgery to stabilize the fracture with the recovery time likely to be three months”
Usher will return to America on Wednesday morning to have the surgery and begin rehab with the support of family and friends close by.
Basketball Ballarat elite teams administrator Melissa Thomas said “We have worked closely with Davon in coming to the decision to return home to have the surgery, Davon is contracted for the 2019 season and if his surgery and rehab all go to plan then we are expecting to him back on the court for the Miners in early 2019”
Usher will make his final 2018 appearance on the bench for the Miners tomorrow night against Kilsyth, and will attend his community engagement activities Monday and Tuesday to say his farewells before departing on Wednesday.
Basketball Ballarat will keep in close contact with Usher and assist in all areas of his rehab as possible
