Dear Members, Clubs and Teams,

2021 continues to be a tricky year to navigate with so many lockdowns and missed rounds of play for indoor sports. Whilst playing indoors under a roof and heating in Ballarat offers many benefits other sports can’t, we also see lengthy delays in returning to sport due to our indoor nature.

The 2021 Championship season which was rounds away from finals has been delayed now for over three weeks, with a potential new season due to commence from October 4. During this lockdown BBA have been looking into options on how we can complete this season and if possible, to extend the season dates and round into term 4. As many are aware the ability to extend rounds past already set dates is limited with player insurances, team availabilities and player/family commitments.

It is unfortunate that we need to make the decision to cancel the 2021 Championship Season effective immediately. There will be no winners announced for the season as we have been unable to play any of the final’s series. Minor premiers of competitions will be recognised across the 47 junior and 22 senior competitions.

BBA encourage all members to continue to show support to their clubs, teams and ability to play when we are able to by contacting or registering for the upcoming season. While basketball has stopped club administrators have not and are busily preparing for a new season and a return to the court. We will be able to return soon enough and we want Ballarat Basketballers to join us when we can.

Entries close for the new season on Thursday September 23rd with games commencing (if restrictions permit) on Monday 4th of October. If you are a club-based player, we encourage you to make contact with your club now. If you have a senior single team registration links have been sent to team contacts/members of the team.

The BBA will work with clubs to come up with a solution to ensure a 2022 Championship season can be played and finished.

Kind Regards,

Matt Newton
