Ballarat Juniors excited to play on national stage

The Thrifty Ballarat Miners & Rush Juniors will next week take it up to some of the best teams and players from across Australia at the Under-14 National Club Championships in their home city of Ballarat.

 

Starting on Monday September 30th and through until Saturday October 5th, games will be played across both the Ballarat Sports Events Centre and the MARS Minerdome.

 

Basketball Ballarat’s Elite Teams Administrator Glenn White was excited by the opportunity for Basketball Ballarat athletes to play against strong competition on the national stage.

 

“We are thrilled to have the chance to not only host the best clubs from around Australia but also compete against them for a national title on our home courts” White said.

With every state and territory represented at this years National Club Championships, Ballarat will see 48 teams totalling over 576 athletes along with over 192 club officials and 60 technical officials stay in Ballarat for the week long event. For every athlete coming, there will be on average 2.5 family members joining them on their trip to Ballarat adding an additional 1,200 visitors.

 

Head of Partnerships from Ballarat Basketball Andrew Day was really supportive of events of this magnitude for the City of Ballarat.

 

“This event has attracted over 16,000 bed nights and will provide significant economic benefits for the Ballarat Community” Day said.

 

“With the opening of the Ballarat Sports Events Centre; this has now opened the door for major events to consider Ballarat as a destination city for national level indoor sports so the future is quite bright.” Day ended with.

The Australian Under-14 Club Championships provide the only opportunity to athletes to represent their clubs at a national level with the teams having to qualify through their respective state championships in order to gain entry to the prestigious event.
