Basketball Ballarat statistician Emma Henstridge will this week travel to the Sunshine Coast as the only Victorian selected statistician for the national under 16 Australian Junior Basketball Championships being held from July 6th to 13th. She will join Basketball Ballarat players, Charlie Molan, Ben Hobbs and Austin McKenzie who are representing Victoria Country at the event.
Henstridge has been a regular statistician on Ballarat SEABL and Youth League games for the past nine years and has also travelled to Melbourne for WNBL and NBL duties.
Basketball Ballarat’s Statistician co-ordinator Jason Crosbie said “This is a great achievement for Emma and recognition of her quality of work over a number of seasons.” Crosby continued “Emma commits herself to Basketball during the winter often working on four games each weekend so to be the only Victorian representative at the National Championships is a great reward for her hard work”
Henstridge said “It is exciting to be selected and to challenge myself with the statistics at the National Championships” Henstridge continued “It will be a bit different as I won’t know any of the players, so it will take time to adjust into each game but I am looking forward to the experience”.
Henstridge was initially hesitant at the opportunity as she was already rostered on to SEABL and Youth League games, however that quickly passed when her peers jumped at the opportunity to cover her to ensure there was no reason why she couldn’t go.
Basketball Ballarat is always looking for more statisticians for SEABL and Big V Youth League home games. It is a great way for lovers of basketball to stay involved and follow an alternative pathway get to the top level of basketball.
