return to play

Dear Members, Clubs & Stakeholders,

Basketball currently remains in lockdown until at least 11.59pm Thursday 10th of June as per the State Government imposed lockdown orders. This means that no one can access or play within any of our stadiums during this period.

Whilst we don’t have any further information than already promoted by Government officials we are actively seeking options to ensure the current Championship Season can run to its full potential, within government guidelines of course.

The below is only at this stage a crystal ball type vision which is dependent on restrictions allowing us to return in some capacity, we want to give teams and clubs as much notice of what may occur with short notice.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a very real possibility that we may need to revert to 1 player + 1 parent/guardian entry only like we had in late 2020. This would be the case if we only are allowed to commence under Basketball Victoria’s “Orange 50”. This would be until allowed to expand to more regular arrangements as notified by BV.

GAMES/ROUNDS CANCELLED:

Games for both Junior and senior domestic competitions that were scheduled to be played during (inclusive) Friday 28th of May and Friday 4th of June will be cancelled and each team scheduled for a game will receive 2 ladder points.

Games Scheduled for Tuesday June 8th until Thursday 10th of June (inclusive) will also be cancelled and the above arrangement will be made for ladder points.

GAMES/ DATE CHANGE: Pending ability to return

  1. If cleared to commence by State Government and BV on Friday 11th of June, games scheduled for that date will be played as normal.
  2. Basketball Ballarat is also proposing that Saturday round 7 games (5/6/21) be moved to Saturday June 12th which is the Saturday within the Long Weekend.
  3. Basketball Ballarat is proposing that Monday junior and senior round 8 games be moved to Monday June 14th which is the Monday of the Long Weekend.
  4. If restrictions extend further than already listed, restricting us from returning safely to play the finals series be reviewed to a normal Semi Final (1v4, 2v3) Grand Final arrangement and the extra week of finals be reverted to a normal season round.

Please note that the above 4 points are all dependent on restrictions easing on Friday 11th of June allowing us to return. If we aren’t able to commence safely then the rounds listed in dot points 1, 2 and 3 will be cancelled accordingly. Dot point 4 will take effect immediately if this is the case.

Regards,

Matt Newton
