WEEK 1
BEN HUNT
DALLAS MAVERICKS - YOUTH BASKETBALL DIRECTOR
Twitter - @bahunt55 - https://www.mavs.com/video/ben-hunt-basketball/
Ballarat junior basketballers are extremely lucky to have Ben Hunt of the Dallas Mavericks, share some of his training videos with them! Ben was a Ballarat Miner in 2004, as well as Basketball Ballarat’s Junior Development Officer, and he’s very kindly offered to help Ballarat out in this uncertain time. Read more about Ben and his message to you below!
Ben Hunt departed the Miners at the end of the 2004 season to pursue a career in the USA collegiate system, following a successful stint with Texas Wesleyan University, Ben was offered a spot on the Dallas Mavericks Summer League roster. Ben then returned to Australia for two years with the Perth Wildcats in the NBL, before heading back to the USA to begin his coaching career in the Texas High School system.
Ben has a message for all Ballarat juniors, and that’s to “do what you have to do, before you do what you want to do” as most of you are about to dive back into school work this week, this means being sure you get that school work done, finding time to work on your basketball skills in your driveway for 45 minutes a day, then, and only then, should you be sitting down on the couch!
Throughout his own basketball career, Ben has always done what he calls “helping your future self”, think about the person and athlete you want to be in 5-10 years – is what you’re doing today helping them out?
Basketball Ballarat CEO Peter Eddy who recruited Ben to Ballarat said that “Ben’s enthusiasm, passion for the game and commitment to being a quality role model for our young athletes stood out even when he was a young man and it is no accident that has achieved the success that he has today”.
