Hi Coaches,

Welcome to the coaching page of the Basketball Ballarat Home-Stay-Play Program. On this page we plan to update you each week with a range of content, we will provide:

  • Links to the best resources other associations are providing
  • Ballarat beginner coaching seminars (held over Zoom)
  • Ballarat intermediate coaching seminars (held over Zoom)

This program is aimed at our grass roots coaches, we expect parents and some domestic coaches will like to start with the beginner classes, while the intermediate classes will be aimed at coaches in domestic A grade and the JET program.

We will aim to update this page every Monday, an email will be sent to your nominated inbox to advise you of the update.

This is a MUST SEE clinic, understanding the referee role and how to communicate effectively is a very useful tool in a coach!

Last but certainly not least, we have Peter Lonergan teaching about the post. Peter is the BA Head of High Performance Coach Development, you won't find many better teachers than this.

Welcome to Week 8 of the Home-Stay-Play Program. This week we have Coaches Online Session #7, which will be focused on how to teach the Pick and Roll.

Session #4 will be lead by Joel Anderson, U18 Miners coach and U16 Country Vic State Team Boys Coach. The focus will be on how to teach defence from 1v1 skills to 5v5 team concepts. This will touch on concepts relevant to 8-15 year olds at both domestic and rep level.

A lot of people have heard of Basketball Immersion and its creator Chris Oliver. This blog has caught our interest this week, exploring the Basketball Decision Training (BDT) Shooting Build Up Drills. Be sure to check it out!

 

Basketball Victoria - Podcasts

Next we have the Basketball Victoria Coaching Podcast. This is a perfect time to catch up on the 5 seasons of the very popular pod, hearing from a multitude of different coaches and other experts involved in high performance sports. Check out the archive here.

 

Wyndham Basketball

Finally we're throwing back to our friends at Wyndham again this week with Online Coaching Clinic #4. In this video Mel Downer of BNZ shows her experience in 'tagging up' which is a defensive transition/offensive rebounding technique that has increased in popularity greatly since it was developed by Aaron Ferne. For a good tagging up podcast, check this out.

Second presenter in this clinic is Mark Radford from Basketball Tasmania. Tassie have steadily improved their finishes at Australian Junior Championships over Marks tenure - this is a great chance to hear from Mark about how he's built a culture of excellence.
