Basketball Ballarat Senior Elite Teams have today announced the first trial date for the McDonalds Youth League Miners and GMHBA Miners will be held on Sunday October 30th at the MARS® MINERDOME from 5:00-6:30pm.

The McDonalds Youth League Miners play in the Big V Youth League Division One and is a development team that feeds players in to the GMHBA Ballarat Miners who play in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL).

In 2016 six Youth League Miners suited up for the GMHBA Miners at home and away games at various times, with four experiencing the fast paced world of Australia’s second tier National Basketball League.

Youth League Miners head Coach Travis Hewish said “the primary goal of the Youth League team is to develop players and lay the foundation for the SEABL program, ensuring a smooth transition for players into the SEABL team, when players are called upon.”

In 2016 the Youth League Miners fielded a very young team with the average age being 18 playing in a competition that allows for players up until the age of 23.

The Youth League Miners are looking to retain quality members of their team from 2016, but are on the lookout for players that have a passion to improve and exhibit a fierce level of competitiveness. Athletes that may have relocated to Ballarat for University, or players in surrounding regional and rural areas, looking to take their game to the next level are highly valued.

Sunday October 30 will be the first opportunity for players to trial with successful players joining the SEABL and Youth League squads for an intense preseason schedule. Basketball Ballarat’s Elite Teams Administrator Melissa Thomas said “we anticipate holding another trial session in November and December as well as in February when Uni commences to ensure we give all basketballers the best opportunity to improve their game.”

Players that are interested at trialling for the Miners program on October 30 should register via http://bit.ly/2dMsudJ. For those that are unable to attend on October 30 but are interested should also register so they receive notification of the next session.
