Record Numbers for the 50th McDonald’s Ballarat Junior Tournament

Basketball Ballarat is proud to announce that this year’s 50th edition of the McDonald’s Ballarat Junior Tournament will be the biggest Junior Tournament Ballarat has hosted with 350 team entries.

Basketball Clubs from across the state will converge on Ballarat over the King’s Birthday Long Weekend in June playing games across 25 different courts at Selkirk Stadium, Minerdome, Phoenix College, Ballarat High, St Patricks College, Loreto College, and Damascus.

Basketball Ballarat’s Partnerships Manager Melissa Thomas said, “This is the largest Junior Tournament we have hosted having increased last year’s number by more than 30 per cent.”

Thomas added, “We have added an additional four Courts at Phoenix College this year to the fixture to ensure we can get through all the games.”

Basketball Ballarat CEO Neville Ivey said, “This is an iconic Basketball tournament for Ballarat and competing association and continually gets bigger and bigger every year.”

Ivey added, “With 350 teams consisting of players, coaches, parents and siblings converging on Ballarat for the weekend it is estimated to have a significant impact on local business and the community generating $8.3 million in Gross Regional Product.”

Marketing Manager of McDonald’s Ballarat Phoebe Soley-Howlett said “McDonald’s Ballarat is proud to again sponsors this great event for our region and it’s great to see in its 50th year it continues to grow.

Soley-Howlett added, “With so many people converging on the region from all over the state, McDonald’s Ballarat is pleased to able to offer rest spots for long-distance drivers along the way to Ballarat to ensure all teams arrive safely.”

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said “The McDonald’s Ballarat Junior Tournament is a staple on the Ballarat calendar and it’s great to see so many young people and their families from far and wide coming to the city every year. The event brings enormous economic benefit to Ballarat and is a huge tourism driver for our city. “

Hudson added “We welcome everybody coming to Ballarat over the long weekend and acknowledge the incredible effort from Basketball Ballarat for reaching such an impressive milestone.”
