Rush Return to Form with Win in Albury: Thrifty Road Game Review

Ending a tough month of double-header weekends in May, the Integra Ballarat Rush have returned to their early-season form with a 99-87 road win over the Albury-Wodonga Bandits.

Ballarat were second on the ladder with a 4-1 record early in the month after defeating Albury-Wodonga at the MARS® MINERDOME, but until this weekend won just one game from six.

Steph Cumming was outstanding with 29 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and received strong support from former Bandit Nya Mason who had 20 points, seven rebound, one steal and two blocks. Abbey Wehrung’s strong form continued with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists.

While the home team started well, going into the second quarter with a 27-24 lead, the Rush went on a rampage to outscore the Bandits 27-13 in the second quarter, and never looked back.

Despite sitting at the bottom of the ladder, Albury-Wodonga boasts some excellent talent in Emilee Harmon who finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds, Lauren Angel who had 23 points and eight rebounds, and Rachel Maenpaa who scored 16 points.

Following a monster schedule of eight games for the month, the Rush will take a well-earned rest over the long weekend before returning to the MARS® MINERDOME on Sunday, Jun 15, to take on Sandringham.
