The Sporting Globe Ballarat Senior Tournament Recap
The 52nd Annual Ballarat Senior Basketball Tournament wrapped up on Monday after nearly 200 games were played by the 70 teams this weekend. Many of the games and all of the finals were played at the Ballarat Sports Events Centre giving the large number of visitors to Ballarat their first glimpse of this magnificent new stadium.
At the pointy end of the tournament the teams in Premier Division and A Grade used the games as the perfect shake down for their up-coming NBL1 or Big V competitions, whilst in the other divisions, the joy of sport was mixed with a social weekend away enjoying much of what Ballarat can offer over the Begonia weekend.
All teams were very complimentary of BSEC and many indicated they would be back in 2021 and be encouraging other teams to make Ballarat a destination for great basketball.
Some local teams did well with Kings winning B Men and Foxes Social Women together with the Miners in Premier Division. The Miners went throughout the weekend undefeated and coach Brendan Joyce commented that he valued the time to see all his players getting good minutes, however an injury to Dan Joyce will put a little dampener on the win.
Newcomers to the tournament Vic Maccabi upset crowd favourites Bashed Crabs to take out the Masters division and Melbourne Uni proved too strong to comfortably account for Wallan in the Women’s A Grade.
In C Men it was a last second basket to Hoof Hearted that saw them snatch the game from Jiblets and in the other C Mens Division Clippers and Scorpions had a game long battle before Clippers edged ahead.
