In celebration of NBL1 First Nations Round, the Ballarat Miners have unveiled their new First Nations uniform, featuring an inspiring design by Noongar artist Shakira Winmar.
Titled Our Country, the design honours Wadawurrung Country, where waters, ancestors and all living beings move as one, carrying a connection that lives beyond time and guides all who walk upon it.
The artwork represents a cultural connection to Country passed through generations, honouring all living beings and reminding us to respect, acknowledge and care for the land we walk on. The design features Lal Lal Falls, Parwan (magpies), Munuwarra (black swans), the Mullawallah Wetlands and the Yarrowee River, all located on Wadawurrung Country.
Noongar artist Shakira Winmar said she was honoured to once again design the Ballarat Miners First Nations uniform.
“I feel very honoured to once again design the Ballarat Miners basketball uniforms and Choose Tap drink bottles. This opportunity allows me to showcase Aboriginal culture within the Ballarat community while also supporting the important Choose Tap initiative.”
Both the Ballarat Miners men’s and women’s teams will proudly wear the new First Nations uniforms during this weekend’s game against Waverley and across the following two rounds. The jerseys will then be auctioned, giving supporters the opportunity to own a special piece of Miners merchandise while celebrating culture and connection to Country. Click here to view the auction.
