Basketball Ballarat is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Head Coach of the Ballarat Miners NBL1 Men’s program for the 2026 NBL1 South season. This process is a forward-planning measure in response to notified anticipated availability constraints from our current Head Coach and is not the result of a resignation or cessation of employment.
Context of the role
The Ballarat Miners NBL1 Men’s program is a key part of Basketball Ballarat’s high-performance pathway, operating within a large multi-sport organisation based at Selkirk Stadium and the Buxton Minerdome. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Coaching, Senior Elite Teams Committee, and Youth League program to deliver a cohesive and competitive senior men’s program that reflects the values and culture of Basketball Ballarat.
Scope and key responsibilities
The Head Coach of the NBL1 Men’s program will:
• Lead the development and implementation of the club’s basketball philosophy, performance standards, and coaching strategies for the senior men’s team. • Build and maintain a culture of excellence, discipline, inclusiveness, and professionalism within the men’s program, aligned with Basketball Ballarat’s broader strategic objectives. • Work closely with support staff (including Strength & Conditioning and team operations staff) to deliver an integrated athlete development and welfare program. • Direct team practices, individual workouts, and strength and conditioning sessions throughout pre-season and in-season, and lead game night coaching, preparation, and opposition scouting. • Assist with recruitment and retention of players and staff, balancing the development of regional talent with the need to remain highly competitive within NBL1 South.
Skills, attributes and qualifications
Ideal candidates will:
• Demonstrate successful experience coaching at elite, state, national, or senior representative level, with a strong track record of player development and team performance. • Possess strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills, including the ability to manage staff, communicate with stakeholders, and represent the club professionally in the community and media. • Hold, at minimum, Basketball Australia Association Coach Accreditation (Level 2), with High Performance (Level 3) accreditation highly desirable. • Be committed to ongoing professional development, be proficient with video and scouting technology, and meet all safeguarding, Working with Children Check, and policy compliance requirements of Basketball Victoria and Basketball Australia.
