Moller, Bonds earn SEABL’s player of the week award

Ballarat Miners forward Craig Moller and Ballarat Rush import Jaterra Bonds have been named South East Australian Basketball League’s players of the week in men’s and women’s competition.

Both players dominated in double headers against Hobart and Sandringham on the weekend.

Story from The Courier by Siobhan Calafiore, 20 Jun 2017.

Moller averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and a block in the two games.

Miners coach Eric Hayes noted Moller’s offensive work against Hobart and said he had provided the team extra hustle.

But Moller was modest about his efforts after the game.

“I just try to really focus in on defence and the offence comes naturally, I think we have a really good spread, a really good team this year so as long as we get our defence right we should be okay,” he said.

Moller was also named as SEABL’s player of the week in round three.

Meanwhile, Bonds averaged 37 points across two games, along with eight rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals, in performances that helped lift Rush to victories.

With just one point the difference against Hobart and less than five minutes remaining, Bonds went on to collect nine points for Rush.

But Bonds told the media after being named most valuable player, while she happened to have a good game, it came down to a team effort.
