Hot on the heels of major events announcements in recent weeks for B.SEC and Basketball Ballarat the Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison together with the Mayor of the City of Ballarat Cr Samantha McIntosh today announced that Ballarat has been selected to host the 4th Annual Basketball Australia Coaches Conference on October 2nd and 3rd 2019.

 

The event normally held at the Canberra Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence moves to Victoria and Ballarat for the first time.

 

The event will bring some of the most respected development coaches and performance leaders in Australian and international basketball to be guest presenters at the National Conference.

 

Ballarat Grammar School will be the host venue for the conference.

 

Paul Maley, Executive General Manager for Basketball Australia stated “For Basketball Australia the National Coaches Conference is an important part of our investment in the education of coaches. Attendance at this conference has been growing steadily and the line-up of speakers this year promises to make the Ballarat event our biggest yet.”

 

Respected NBA shooting coach Dave Love will headline the list of presenters at the event and he will be joined by FIBA World Association of Basketball Coaches President Patrick Hunt as keynote presenters.

 

NBA Global Academy assistant coach Nico Loreiro has agreed to present an on-court session at the conference on a game sense approach to player development and former St Kilda champion and performance coach Nathan Burke will present on high performing teams.

 

In what will be a blend of on-court sessions, lectures and keynote presentations, some other presenters include former NBL player David Stiff talking the psychology of coaching and respected association Director of Coaching Gerard Hillier on leadership of club development and representative programs.

 

Ballarat Miners coach and former Opals Coach Brendan Joyce will also be one of the coaches presenting on establishing a high-performance environment.

 

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh congratulated Basketball Ballarat for its great work in securing another major national basketball event for our city.

 

 

“Ballarat is proud to host the 4th Annual Basketball Australia Coaches Conference, in conjunction with the under 14 Australian Club Championships that will be on here at the same time.

 

“Events of this calibre also offer an economic benefit to our city – they fill our hotel beds and the seats of our local cafes, restaurants and bars. It just shows the possibilities that are open to Ballarat with facilities available of this quality.”

Other Presenters will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

 

The Conference will also include presentations on technology in basketball, as well as sports science and strength and conditioning for basketball.

 

Registration for coaches from all over Australia wishing to attend the Conference are now open.

 

The event which will run in conjunction with the U/14 Australian Club Championship will be another major test for Basketball Ballarat as it looks to attract national and international level events to our city and region.
